Recycle Your Old TV
At ShopJimmy, our mission is to make repair easy. We want more folks to repair their items over replacing them. It not only helps save money, but it’s better for the environment. Electronics waste, or e-waste, continues to be a growing, global problem. We embody this mission so much so that when we rebranded last year, we purposefully designed our new logo as a derivative of the classic recycling logo. Pretty cool, right?
We also realize that, unfortunately, some TVs just can’t be repaired. For instance, when a TV’s panel is bad, it’s not economical for anyone to try to replace the panel (we don’t even stock them). Burnt diffusers or paper filter(s) from overheated LEDs can also make TVs unrepairable.
The good news is that there are quite a few organizations that facilitate TV recycling. We’ve compiled some info about these companies to help you find the right recycler in your area!
TV Recycling Resources and Finding a Recycler Near You
ERI
ERI is the largest electronics asset disposition provider and e-waste recycler in the United States, and they partner with both retailers and TV manufacturers to properly recycle old TVs. ERI has drop-off locations in several states, and they have mail-in programs for TV brands like Sony, Vizio, LG, and Westinghouse. They also have a recycler locator to find a TV recycler in your area.
GreenerGadgets
The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) operates GreenerGadgets, which is an “online resource to educate consumers about living green, buying green and recycling responsibly all year-round.” GreenerGadgets also has a recycler locator that you can use to find a TV recycler near you.

Your Local Government's Website
Most city and/or county websites will have information on local electronics and TV recycling and will include recyclers and drop-off locations in your area.
Nationwide TV Recycling Options
Best Buy
You can drop-off your old TV at most Best Buy locations* and they will recycle it for $29.99. Best Buy will also haul away and recycle your TV from your house for $39.99 when you purchase a replacement TV and it’s delivered to you.
Best Buy partners with several recycling organizations (some mentioned above) to ensure your TV is recycled in accordance with regulatory standards. This means that equipment won’t be incinerated or land disposed, personal data will be properly wiped, and, perhaps most importantly, any non-working equipment won’t be sold or exported.

*There are no store drop-off fees in California. Stores in Connecticut and Pennsylvania do not accept TVs for drop-off.
LoadUp
LoadUp makes TV recycling pretty easy by allowing you to schedule in-home or curbside pick-up services for your old TV. The downside of this convenience is that LoadUp’s pricing starts at $82 and varies depending on your location.
LoadUp doesn’t detail their recycling process, but they do mention that they comply with local and national regulatory standards for e-waste and also donate TVs when possible.
